Collar Me Bad

It’s been a rush of events, tasks and activities lately and more so being the start of a new week, a lot of plans to be created and carried out but however, I did make out time to create some fancy detachable collars inspired by my love for all things African as well as vintage. Jump in and see the tutorial cos we are making ‘em together!

This tutorial would be broken in two sections: the pattern section, and the free hand section.

WITH A PATTERN

Here I made use of a simplicity pattern ......

And you cut out the same shape with your fabric. 

 Note that the pattern is folded although i decided to cut mine in four parts. you don't have to.

Then you iron on some stay so the collar is nice and firm...

this is what the reverse side looks like:

sew at the arrow (this is the center back)

now you'l have two pieces, spread open, iron out and join top to bottom and insert a ribbon at the tips... 

and this is what you'll have:

 after the sewing process, i decided to embellish it a bit so that it looked this way:

also experimented with colour...

WITHOUT A PATTERN

the written measurements are in inches, and so when open, should be 15''. the part labelled 'c' is the center back. please take neck and shoulder measurements to be sure so you know how to adjust. my shoulder measurements is 14'', so at the back from shoulder to shoulder i measured 8'', and each half of the front also from shoulder to shoulder was 3''.

when open it should look this way:

and then folded into an actual collar shape should look:

after sewing and inserting my ribbon (which I made out of a stripe fabric), i got this. Looks the same right?
